Yang Yazhou Study

Since 1990s, mass culture has begun to grow vigorously in China. Under such culture background, movie and television culture discloses its features as mass culture, and plebification is the most remarkable characteristic of movie and television culture. Yang Yazhou started his creation just in such cultural language environment. Be still TV play disregarding being movie, he always pays closely attention to life and art pursuit of common people and presents healthy, happy and substantial spirit world of the common people who is in trouble. Thereby, he is praised as "plebeian director".In the introduction part, we briefly introduced the cultural language environment where Yang Yazhou situates in for his creation of movie and television and his experience. China has entered aesthetic stage of the mass life. From Yang Yazhou's works, real recurrence of everyday life scene and real emotion of civilian's world can be seen, which meets the demand of cultural language environment and social aesthetics of during current transformation period.This paper has 3 parts. We emphatically researched Yang Yazhou's works from 3 aspects, aesthetics pursuit, narration features and art skill of realism. Judging from appearance, Yang Yazhou's works are affected by the current mass culture, his inclination of plebification and secularism, but on internal spirit, he still keeps tradition of realism. His series of movie and TV play are drawn from reality. Common people's ordinary life is recorded with ordinary scenes. In terms of narration, Yang Yazhou's style has its unique features. In his movies and TV plays, with exquisite female's visual angle and narration manner, female's principal part and narration ability are shown. Current female's existence troubles and emotion experience are presented in truth and deeply. There is unique means and lingering charm that generally male's narration is unable to express. Majority of Yang Yazhou's TV play works adopt non-strong plot narration strategy, i.e. to attract and infect audiences with its living and ordinary style rather than incident or conflict. Besides, majority of Yang Yazhou's movie and TV play works adopt tragicomedy mode of smile with tears. They have very high aesthetic value with colour of tragedy and of comedy to the same extent. In terms of exerting artistic skill of movie and television works, firstly, he presents colloquial and individual features in the way of language, which bases on his style of "plebification". Secondly, his series of movie and television works have shown his unique shooting style. He does not only pay attention to exerting shooting shape element, but also infused many shooting techniques of movie so as to intensified visual aesthetic feeling and expressive force of the screen and enhanced aesthetic taste on TV play.The rest part briefly discussed on social cultural value of Yang Yazhou's civilian movie and television works and troubles that he is faced with now as well as prospect in the future.
