Cultural Capital Accumulation And Transformation Characteristics Of Study

Cultural capital as an important choice mechanism showing social justice has always been playing a vital role in the west and our country. Cultural capital also becomes an effective way for people to promote social status. However, with rapid development of higher education, cultural capital is receiving more and more challenges from other capitals.This research both has theoretical and practical significance. In theory, according to Pierre Bourdieu's cultural capital theory, this research is to explore and study the mechanism of cultural capital accumulation and transformation in specific area. In practice, this research will be good to eliminate the inequality in the beginning and promote the effect of cultural capital.The respondents are intellectuals (university teachers and high school teachers) who they have higher cultural capital in the underdeveloped area—Linyi city. By questionnaire survey and social statistical analysis, the article explores accumulation and transformation mechanism of cultural capital in underdeveloped area.The article briefly reviews and summarizes cultural capital's change in the west and our country. In different stage of society development, there are different cultural capital which occupies the social mainstream culture status. In the west, it has experienced from classical philosophy of ancient Greece to theology in the middle ages and modern science .In our country, it has also experienced important transformation from humanities to natural science. Along with the transformation of cultural capital status, destiny of intellectuals who have higher cultural capital is gradually changing. Changes of intellectuals' status are decided by cultural capital role in different times.By theory literature review, we know about the research on cultural capital which was done by Pierre Bourdieu and other scholars .This article has analyzed definition of cultural capital, explained the characteristics of accumulation and transformation, and expounded function of cultural capital in modern society.The article proposes that, in underdeveloped area, accumulating cultural capital is mainly influenced by individual and social capital that individual holds. In lower individual social capital situation, cultural capital's accumulation is mainly influenced by time and energy .Very little can be obtained from family. When cultural capital is transformed into other capitals, its scarcity and importance play a vital role. The scarce opportunities and the popular higher education in underdeveloped area lead to the result that quantity and quality of individual social capital plays a more important role in cultural capital's transformation. When sex is different, individual social capital's quantity and quality have different function mechanism. Because of social demand, cultural capital turns into economical capital mainly in the unit .The persons who have higher cultural capital and higher social capital are easier to obtain higher authority capital .However some people are often passive.The investigation shows that, in underdeveloped area, function of knowledge is not satisfied with intellectuals' anticipation. Accumulation of cultural capital mainly depends on individual efforts. The exchange rates between cultural capital and other capitals, such as economical capital, political capital (authority capital), are very low. Generation mobility is badly influenced by parent's occupation. There is sex difference in employment.According to the elaboration above, conclusions can be drawn as follows .With rapid development of higher education , function of cultural capital is attenuating ;Lack of individual social capital and concentration of social resource will influence social stratification intensely; Opportunity cost is higher and higher, but opportunities don 't increase. On the contrary, opportunities of high quality are more and more difficult to obtain. It requests individual has not only unusual education background, but also has other social factors.Because of ability limit, in questionnaire design and social investigation, unavoidably there will be imperfect, and the respondents' dishonesty will influence the representation of investigation result. About materials analysis, there are also some unavoidable questions in depth. 1 will certainly continue to try harder from now on.
