This thesis mainly research the relationship between the two great Swedish artists, Bergman and Strindberg on the creation of art. It emphasizes on discussing the inheritance and development of Strindberg'drama spirit, and how Bergman formed his style in his films. In doing so, we are able to understand Bergman's films and Strindberg's plays more deeply. This thesis can be divided into these chapters, the source of thoughts, the content expressed and the techniques of art creation.The first chapter begins with the source of thoughts. It focuses on the similarities between Bergman's personal experience and that of Strindberg. It lay a thought foundation for Bergman'creation which he learn from Strindberg.The second chapter discusses three contents specifically: the dream and reality, the conflicts in the characters'inner world the conviction and the ways of expiation. These are very special in Bergman's films because they all have the style of Strindberg.The third chapter is a profound study on the techniques of creation having the Strindberg style in Bergman's films. It consists of the apply of expressionismus and the tradition of chamber play , the relationship between actor and spectator.
