Yuan Mei Gender Relations In View Of Feminism

Yuan Mei ,who underwent the Kangxi,Qianlong,Jiaqing four periods of Qing dynasty, had a great success in literature.He advocated the study of "xingling",which was occupied a place among the other groups: "the soul", "the skin texture" and"the charm".Yuan was lascivious.He not only married lots of wives and concubines, broadly received female disciples, but also was a homosexual. So there were different opinnions about him until a long time after his death.This article makes use of his tests include poems,Ietters,novels and so on to intercept his views on female,in order to present a little part of his complex thought objectively.This article has five parts: the introduction, chapter one,chapter two,chapter three and the conclusion.Charpter one:discuss his views on sex: his inheritances and innovations about traditionnal views of sex;his criticism which was on the basis of the criticism to the Buddhim,the Song Ming Lixue and to express his sympathy for women.Chapter two:this part compare Zi bu yu with Liao zhai zhi yi and Yue wei caotang biji,from the respects of female attractiveness,the female morality and female brilliance of minds to discuss his views on female.Chapter three: try to find out how did Yuan found his views on sex and female.The thoughts of Ming dynasty were still alive in the beginning of Qing dynasty. Yuan mei's philosopy, attitude to life,and views of sex and female were influnced by LiZhi andYuan Hongdao obviously.Yuan abstracted opinions from different scholars,although most of them were whom he opposed.For example ,he was against SongXue ,but he prefered to use the opinions of Zhu Xi's views on The Book of Odes to support himself.He opposed the study on Hanxue,but he absorbed its suspicious sprit of acquring evidence and the attitude towards realism all of which led to complexity of his views of sex and female.In addition the enviroments of his life ,the temperaments which helpde to form his views,will be put into discuss deeply in this part.
