Zhao Southern Theatre Studies

Zhao, Huanan is a Shanghai local dramatist. His produce style is very vivid. His drama is always focus on local life style and reflects civilian daily life. His narration is sinuous, roles are saturated, actor's lines are plain, humor and close to oral in his drama.Through observing his own life and produce experiences, we find out how he becomes a famous professional dramatist from a casual player in Shanghai even in the whole nation. His drama insists upon realistic style, catches the hotspot and events, and feels era pulse. He forms his own plain and comic artistic style.We have mainly analyzed his Shikumen series in this article. It includes his magnum opus: GPT is Abnormal and OK, Stock, which were stirring the whole country. After mixing role's character with humor language, analyzing role's psychological conflict and evolving process, Zhao, Huanan enthusiastically eulogizes these civilians. He also illustrated Shanghai's growth and evolution in his own way and from different perspectives. Zhao, Huanan is a true Shanghai contemporary observer.
