In 1840s, the Opium War caused the " huayi orders" that had existed in ancient China for more than 2000 years to collapse, and the border area of China became the target of many colonist countries. Under such a great pressure, the Chinese People began to realize that there were big difference between China and the western countries, especially the construction of a whole nation. The new style of a country as a nation-state became the most common state of the world. After years of effort to resist the aggression, Chinese people was trying to use the modern views of state sovereignty, territory and ethnic thoughts to explain or solve the problems of China.In the early years of the 20th century, the crisis of the border area grew more and more seriously, so more and more Chinese intellectuals began to pay attention to the territory problems of China. They set up a lot of organizations to do the research of China's territory; various public media such as books, magazines, radio and so on were used to propagandize their survey and thoughts. New Asia academy was one of the important organizations at that time, and its magazine called New Asia was also very influential in the territory research field. The paper tries to do a study about the New Asia magazine's research on the Outer Mongolia and Inner Mongolia, give a brief introduction of the scholar's works andmakes effort to review their dynamic concepts on the state sovereignty, territory and ethnic thoughts.There are three parts of the paper:The first part is preface. It mainly introduces why to choose this topic and what significance the topic has, lists the related works and explains what method this paper takes.The second part is the body of the paper. There are three chapters. Chapter 1 gives a introduction of the New Asia Academy, including its background, mission, characteristic, and the New Asia magazine's study field, achievements and so on. Chapter 2 mainly presents the New Asia magazine's research work on Outer Mongolia, including its history, geography, status quo, and its independence movement. Then, do a comment on the New Asia scholars' success and defects. Chapter 3 mainly presents the New Asia magazine's research work on Inner Mongolia, including its status quo, Autonomy movements. Then, give a comment on the New Asia scholars' attitude about Inner Mongolia's problem and their criticism on the government's policies.The third part is conclusion, which is Chapter4. At first, points out the New Asia magazine's effect on enriching Chinese people's knowledge about the border area of the motherland, enlightening people's patriotic passion and their identification with the Chinese Nation. Then, according to the New Asia scholar's study on Outer Mongolia and Inner Mongolia,analyzes their understanding about the modern views of state sovereignty,territory and ethnic thoughts. All of the study proves that all of theirviews were under way of transforming from tradition one into a modernone.
