The thesis is entitled " Dramatization and the Fictional Narration Art of Henry James". After close readings of James' fictions, in terms of the development of Anglo-American narrative studies in the 20th century, the thesis argues that the attempt to dramatically present the fiction by Henry James has made great contribution to the real presentations of the reality in fictions.During the three chapters, the attempt to dramatically present the fiction by Henry James will be studied through these perspectives: dramatic scene, point of view and center of interest.The first chapter " Scenes and Dramatic Present" discusses how to present the fiction dramatically through scenes. Henry James insisted that scenic method, which can bring readers onto dramatic stages, where they can observe what actors do and hear what actors say, is able to construct a fictional world that is almost as real as the real one. Stories can be presented on two levels. One is to dramatize stories, which is realized by the absence of authors. The other is to dramatize consciousness, which consists of consciousness and its movements.In the second chapter, "Point of View and Dramatic Present', the relationship between point of view and dramatic presentation is discussed. Henry James argued that the fiction had to be based on the real presentation if it requires to be one of the serious arts. The reality of the fiction differs from that of history in that it is subjective. Because of that, the fiction must try to present itself without authors. With the help of point of view, which was chosen and adjusted carefully, Henry James made a fictional world in which readers can observe, hear, feel and accept.The third chapter " Center of Interest and Dramatic Present focuses on the center of interest, which plays a great role in the dramatic present of the fiction.
