Xi Wangmu is; one of the oldest goddesses in china. She was a demon and evil of half man and half animal in Ch' in literature, especially in "Shan Haijing" . In Han dynasty she rised to be an immortal of Taoism. The immortal changes took place deeper and deeper during Wei dynasty and Jin dynasty , at that time , Xi Wangmu served as "the first goddess" in Taoism and has been a widely__ known goddess in China.The myths of Xi Wangmu, which are the most important part in Chinese mythical system, have supplied literature writing with a large number of subject matters, literators of past dynasties take delight in talking and writing about them. Chinese people adore Xi Wangmu and have formed wide belief of her in all ages. As a brilliant goddess, she has been paid fully attention by experts and scholars, who have been doing universal and diversified research on Xi Wangmu. Among all the researches , some emphasize on the antetype or religion , theology, some may study social reasons of Xi Wangmu' adoration in Han dynasty , analyse stone figure, copper mirror of Xi Wangmu. The studies on the evolution are few, the exploration on folk customs are even rare.So the dissertation aims at explaining Xi Wangmu perfectly and systematically: At first, introducing the antetype and the original meaning of Xi Wangmu, based mainly on the book "Shan Haijing" . The second, explaining the characters of evolution, Xi Wangmu' s godhood changes a lot , she becomes an immortal of diversified godhood: a deathless manitou, a salvation, an immortal who sets up the world and gives birth to babies. She tends to have more common customs, which means she gets beautiful appearance, has a spouse, turns to be more humanized. She is related to the middle part of China and Taoism. The third, explaining the meaning of Xi Wangmu' myths, revealing the feature of the myths' changes and development, which are relevant to Chinese mentality, culture, religion and the development of Chinese women status.
