Tie Ning, a famous writer in the Chinese literary world of the time, has pure, fresh, and modesty style of writing. The novel Oh, Xiangxue makes her well-known, but she can not be simplicity as Xiangxue herself. Born in 1957, Tie Ning underwent Anti-Rightist movement and Great Cultural Revolution. The hurt of the times imprinted permanent agony on her memory. So, many of her productions faced the history and described the true lives and inner feelings of that special times directly. In these works that full of violence, peoples are badgered with politics. There was no absolute borderline of goodness and evil, thug and victim, even transforming from one side to the opposite. So, the author caught hold of the soul dissimilation of the fantastic times tightly. Took the May 4th Movement as a mirror, Tie Ning turns over to think those freaky years. The May 4th Movement advocated nous, personality, egalitarian, democracy, esteemed knowledge and persons with ability, tried to eliminate the bondage of the feudalism, led people to the independence and freedom. Through the point of logos, Tie Ning tried to liquidate the anti-enlightening culture. As the main force of the enlightening, intellectuals not only lost their deserved rights, but even became mediocre persons. When those intellectuals attempted and accomplished nothing, the ordinary persons became more callous. They lost not only the conscience that human should deserve, but also the compassion that animals even have, living under the influence of the politics passively. For survival, they adapted themselves to the malformed politics, but the finale of those people who refused to change themselves was no other than tragic. If the opinion that Tie Ning takes morality and justice as her mission may be unduely praise, then "disclose the tribulation to catch the people's eyes" may be more in accordance with the author's original intention.
