Study Of Cultural Awareness Of The Nomadic People Of Color Words

As an important group of words in language, almost all of the languages have color words. researches of color words has been done by many linguists and scholars. But seldom deal with languages of minorities in our country. This paper studies color words of nomadic people , and is an attempt to combine the ways of cultural linguistics and cognitive linguistics to take a comprehensive study of color words.On the basis of particular description of color words of Kazak and Mongolian, by contrast with Chinese, this paper analyzes characteristics of metaphorical cognition of nomadic peoples' color words. On one hand ,for the same basis all the languages and cultures have, Kazak, Mongolian and Chinese have some similar metaphorical cognition of color words; on the other hand, for the different culture every language has, metaphorical cognitions of color words of different languages are not the same, Chinese adore yellow, enjoy red, dislike black, avoid white, while languages of nomadic people adore white, enjoy brown and dislike red, which can be seen from words, phrases and proverbs. Then the paper tries to explain the characteristic of metaphorical cognition mentioned above from cultural factors such as environment, material culture and spiritual culture.
