Saga novels are commonly imparted other social meanings, besides familial moral relationship, in both ancient literature and modern and contemporary literature in China. Because of the similarity between familial structure and social structure, the familial decline in those novels often indicates the disintegration of old system and withering away of the old era. Some modern writers, born in the beginning of 20th century, are influenced by the May fourth moral and familial revolution for individual sectionalism taking the place of familial sectionalism. They finally found a "grandfather-father-son" structure to build new system and spread new culture by inveighing against and smashing old system and culture. Ba Jin in his saga novels portrayed the subversion of "grandfather-father-son" structure to indicate the subversion of feudal family. The content of each part is as follows:The introduction is the brief description of the favor and practice of many modern writers to saga novels.
