Bronze inscriptions, words sculptured on bronzes, have been playing a significant part in studying the history of ancient China, esp. the pre-Qin period. Bronze dowries, a small part of the unearthed bronzes, were made, in the ancient China, mainly in Zhou dynasty, for marrying daughters. They are very important for studying the world of women such as their marriage, their names, their political rights and position, etc. However, bronze dowries have not been paid enough attention during the long period of study on bronzes. This paper will study the above described world of women based on the inscriptions on bronze dowries. |
