The Forested Stupas (塔林) in Lingquan Monastery (灵泉寺) is ealier than the Forested Stupas of the Sanjie school(三阶教) in Zhongnan Shan which was recorded in the documents. It's the earliest extant Forested Stupas in China. The stupa delicated in 565(Heqing 2 , The Northern Qi) to Daoping is the eariest in Lingquan Monastery. This Forested Stupas initially formed in the Sui Dynasty, flourished between the Zhenguan, Yonghui and Xianqing period in the Tang Dynasty, and continued to the Kaiyuan period without being disconnected. This thesis is a study on the Huishen stupas (灰度塔 ) in Lingquan Monastery from the Northern Qi to the Tang Dynasty which includes three chapters. In the first chapter, we discuss the distributed districts of the Huishen stupas in Lingquan Monastery, and approximately judge the age of the Huishen stupas which have lost inscriptions. Moreover, we definite the age of formation, flourishing and continuation of the Forested Stupas in Lingquan Monastery. On the basis, we continue to inquire into the developed characteristic of the form of the Huishen stupas. And furtherlyraise the issue that the basic form of the Huishen stupas in Lingquan Monastery-the form of a small single-storey pavilion with a domed roof (覆'亭阁式)originate from the Southern Liang. In the discussion of the the origin, we fasten that this form is the stupa form which was thought highly of by the kings of the Northern Qi and the Southern Liang, and we regard the domed stupa caves at Xiangtang Shan, the Ashokan stupa (阿育王塔) and the stupas originate from Nanhai (南海传入塔 样) as the key. In the third chapter, on the basis of the important influence of the basic forms (inclue stupas delicate to Daoping, Lingyu, ect., esp. stupa delicate to Lingyu) which has raised in the second chapter, we emphatically inquire into the important function of the Dilun school (include Daoping and Lingyu) and their worship of the Western Pure Land on the formation of the Forested Stupas. We also point out the great efforts of Dilun Shi (地论师) to merge the worship of the Pure Land ,Nirvana and the idea of Mofa(末法思想).The Huishen stupas in Lingquan Monastery is not only a funerary mounument that remember the dead's names or deeds, but in fact they also express the influence of the Buddhist notion of birth and death on the monks, nuns and devout lay people. And this influence is not only on the learned monks or nuns, but also on the common monks, nuns and lay people. Although this thesis is a study on the Huishen stupas in Lingquan Monastery, in fact it also emphasize the issues about the art interchange between the Northern Qi and Southern Liang, and the Buddhist worship in Ye(邺城)...
