This paper tries to understand the background, development and evolution of the theory of "One-person of Xue and Lin", and sum up related literatures about this topic, of which theories of image and character of the two people are emphasized.Three chapters to be arranged: Chapter One mainly review how Yu Pingbo understand Xue and Lin's images, and the historical background of his era are contrast with today. Meanwhile, I combine Yu Pingbo's views with his era to analyze the origin of "One-person of Xue and Lin". Thus it may make clear the big influences the "New School" have to Yu Pingbo's perspective to see Xue and Lin.Chapter Two tries to narrate the retrospection, criticism and annotation of the theory "One-person of Xue and Lin" since 1950, from which we can either understand connotation of the theory or experience what people think about it on different of period of time.After previous analysis on historical background, charpter Three treats theory of "One-person of Xue and Lin" and images of two people. We begin with how their images are created on "A Dreams of Red Mansions", and keep emphasis on esthetic thought of Cao Xueqin under comparison of Xue and Lins' image. Then on the basis of two people's delineation, I give comment on success and failure of Yu Pingbo, Li Xifan and Lanling on their discussion on theory of "One-person of Xue and Lin", taking reference to theories of Arts school. Finally, I abstract from above literatures the understanding of Xue and Lin's image to give a comprehensive conclusion.
