Abraham Harold Maslow is an American famous scientist, humanistic philosopherand behaviorist scientist in the 20th century .And he is also an important founder ofhumanistic psychology, known as the "father of humanistic psychology".Since the 1960s, his theory of scientist and psychology raises enormous andwidespread impact in the world. In his scientific theory, he strongly critiqued a classicalscientism in the 19th century ——mechanistic theory and reductive theory ,whichadvocated a principle of "value neutral", "morally neutral". He has advocated ahumanistic science principle that we must hold a new faith to fight against the growingsocial and cultural crisis and against a tendency of non-human in 20th century. Givenclassical science "has entered a dead end", he thought science is the unity of humannature and cognition .so we should expand science field to address human beliefs, ethics and the value theory to bridge the growing division between science and faiths incontemporary. Maslow attempted to make science humanizing, and to assimilate thehuman nature and science humanism, values and understandings. Only through thisway can"should" and "is"unify at a higher level. It also enables people to achievescientific humanization ideal. This thesis is mainly composed of three parts as following:The first part introduces how Maslow criticized a theory of the classical science. On the development of western society in the 20th century, science and technologybrought about the alienation of people, especially the Second World War exercised agreat influence to Maslow, all these provided him with social realities. So Maslowstrongly advocated a new science theory, in which we should study human-centeredtheory other than material-centered theory .The new theory that he posed is ahumanistic theory and a holistic theory. In Maslow's view, the essence of science ishuman nature and values, and science is an anthropology. He also thought that scienceitself is built on the basis of human values, and itself is a value system. Holistic theoryis also the inherent nature of science. According to his understanding, scientific truthshould be integrated, which is the unity of human nature and cognition, the unity oftruth, goodness and beauty. His real intention is to expand science study field, tointegrate human nature and science, to integrate science and values. He firmly believedthat along the way he could make science and human progress, make the value of truth, objective laws and ethical choices integrate. Thus concerning for the fate of mankindand love for peace, as well as for the happy human nature, social pursuits, runs throughthe whole scientific thinking of Maslow. On the basis of the comprehensive and systematical introduction, the third partmainly appraises Maslow's scientific theory in his humanistic vision according toMarxist science viewpoints and people's attitudes to the development of the science. Its rationality embodies mainly some respects as follows: He promoted people'philosophy world concept and transformed the psychology methodology .He alsoattached importance to the humanities values. But because of the limitations of hissocial and historical conditions, his scientific thought also has obvious limitations, embodying mainly some aspects as following: he has not regarded the relationshipbetween human nature and science from the historical materialism angle. And he had acertain fantasy in bridging science and human values. Therefore, exploring andstudying Maslow's scientific theory has great significance. It not only has theoreticalsignificance, but also has great practical significance .It teaches us to carry through andpromote scientific development concept better in our country. |
