Milan Kundera was born in Czechoslovakia in 1929 and since 1975 he has been living in France. He is one of the few important contemporary Czech writers who have achieved widely international recognition. In his works, Kundera creates a famous world full of politics and sex, which is constantly analyzed and interpreted from a philosophical point of view. However, it would be a misunderstanding to regard him as a philosopher or as one who only finds interest in politics and sex. Kundera explored the state of self-being by touching the deep privacy of one's soul and exposing the original state of human beings.Many scholars have paid attention to the female images in Kundera's works. However, they just focused on the images only when talking about Kundera's some works or the separation of the soul from the body, which detaches from the view of literary history. Based on the detailed analysis of the female characters in Kundera's works, the significance of the paper both in reality and theory are expressed in the introduction. The paper also presented the profound meanings of his works and his effort in trying to explore self, so as to offer the enlightenment for the female between being involved in tradition and actualizing their own identities.The whole dissertation can be divided into there parts besides the introduction and the epilogue.Chapter I is about the Unoriginal and the Original. The whole dissertation is based on Headgear's existential theories. This chapter includes three parts: Deprivation of the Unoriginal and the Original in Time and Being of Heidegger, Kundera's further exploration on the same theme by the characters in his works, and the definitions on the Unoriginal and the Original are drawn from the above. One has to keep an eye on the history, which can give us reference and enlightenment. Many people have paid attention to the exploration of self and the Originality throughout the soul of human history. So does Kundera. He created some ideal female images to express his own opinion. Based on what we have discussed, we can draw a conclusionas follows: the Original of the female is a kind of state in which female have self-choices, private self-existence. They respect and pursue original libido, and care nothing about the secular single standards and self-images in others' visions. The Unoriginal of female is a kind of female images who choose their lives not from their own hearts but from the male's. They have lost their own independence and are most willing to regard themselves as subservient to the male, guarding the loyalty under the dilemma between the traditional moral standards and the tortures of conscience and soul.Chapter II gives a detailed analysis of the female characters which can be divided into three classes according to the content of the paper in Kundera's works. The women in the first category are the images of the Unoriginal who are lack of individuality and independence in thinking and behaving. They are held in imprisonment by order of their husbands, their sons or suffering from dying for the unity of soul and body. Women in the second kind belong to the images of the Original. They have an ideal notion of self and nature, being appealed to their nature and conscience and pursuing their real images of selves. The third one is the female image of being in the dilemma of the Unoriginal and the Original. This image is not from the real life but from Kundera's imagination. She has so pure simplicity and becomes a force counteracting Kundera's cynicism. The above three kinds of female images that we have mentioned can be looked as the general sketches of the modern females in our daily life.ChapterIII discusses some modern apocalypses from these female images and their identities. The reason for their psychological conflicts between being attached to the old tradition and actualizing their own personal worth is explored. It shows the perplexing state of the female being in the dilemma. The female often play a passive role in taking part in our social life as an objective identity. They are most willing to regard themselves as subservient to the male and identify with their wills. With the progress of our society and the development of the feminism, they begin to realize their subjective identities and have the right to choose their lives. However, the traditional customs have put them into the perplexing state.Kundera gave nothing about the choices between living for you or for others, and being in the state of the Original or the Unoriginal. It's your own business and your own freedom. Who belongs to images of the Original? Who belongs to images of the Unoriginal? Who should be on the trial of the traditional moral? Who should be blamed? How should we classify the images of the Original and the Unoriginal? What are the moral standards? No affirmative conclusions are drawn from the works of Kundera.Kundera created some ideal female images to express his own ideality. The inter-sexual relationship will enter into a new stage of union between affectional love and sexual love. No matter how long the journey is to our ideal world, we should believe that the inter-sexual future is very promising. He showed us the perplexing state of female between being involved in tradition and actualizing their identity, so as to offer the harmonious inter-sexual relationship for some references.
