The Architects In What Sense Can Be Called An Artist

Study Objective:It is evident in western world that architecture is art, and it is also obvious that architects are artists. But in China, they separately belong to two fields. Although it is clear that architecture has its artistry, the form of building is regarded as the result of a reasonable function and engineering. Architects should not treat it as the form of fine art. Nowadays this quibble cause many misunderstandings in communications with western architects, and it has become an obstacle to architecture researches and practices in our country.This article aims to theoretically analyze the historical reason for these misunderstandings. With the view of art, restudy the meaning of architecture, in order to correct them.Study Method:By leaving the popular idea of architecture open and out of account, and learning the plastic language from the very start, facing directly towards the real pieces of art heritage and visiting architectures in Europe on the spots, I step by step get rid of the wrong influence from my former architectural education, catch the meaning of art. Thus my eyes are open to the art of architecture.Conclusion:Art is creativity, architecture essentially is a kind of expression of art. To know the meaning of art is the first step of understanding architecture. Architects must have the same character as artists, master the plastic language, be full of imagination in mind, so that he can integrate all complex items into a perfection of an architecture.
