Since Mr. Dong Qichang, the famous painter at the end of Ming Dynasty, Mr. Ni Zan was Listed as one of the most well-known painter in Song Dynasty. His pieces of work shows that he was influenced by different styles of painting, and yet he struggled to find his own style, namely "free brushes with inexact shape building". His ideas of painting has been learned and studied ever since. Even those painters and appreciator in Ming and Qing Dynasty see him as a giant in old Chinese traditional painting. I try to find a clue in his Life time concerning the shaping of his idea of painting, to underline "free brushes with inexact shape building"and its effect on Ni Zan's work. With all the effort, I try to explore the effect of Ni Zan on those painters afterwards.
