In 19th century, Schubert and Schumann greatly contributed to the development of the lied, the special composition form among the Romantic Music. Furthermore they promoted the progress of the art of the singing in Europe.Schubert established the basic of the development of the lied and the Schumann is the first successful continuator of him. Moreover he developed the lied further. The article probes into the background of the generation of the lied via comparing the lied of the Schubert and Schumann's. On the other hand the article analyses the achievements of the Schubert and Schumann's in composing of lied and compares their similarities and differences and discovers the aesthetic ideology in Schumann's lied.The author holds that Schumann succeeded Schubert in that Schumann combined music closely with poetry, and paid great attention to the musical expression of emotions. Schumann's music aesthetic ideology stood historical test for almost two centuries. His aesthetic viewpoints on the artistic nature of music and the combination of ideological contents and artistic quality had not only historical value but also realistic value in the music creative work and research today.
