Zhang Wei, The Suffering Of The Novels Themes And Redemption Ideal

Zhang Wei is an important writer in the contemporary literature of China, he is also a prolific author whose works including a lot of novels and essays. Deep in all of his works, there is a strong humanism. In the 1990's,there was an argument about humanitarian spirit in literature ,in which ZhangWei took part and held to a supportive slogan .He also saw the social problems from a scanning and worried point of view and tried to put forward some salvation. To this, different readers have different opinions, both positive and negative. This thesis is written to discuss the theme of hardship and the salvation in ZhangWei's works.The strong humanitarian concern makes Zhang Wei pay close attention to the hard aspect of life, thus making hardship the lasting theme through his writing .The first chapter mainly inspects the historical content in Zhang Wei's fictions .This is what in the author's memory about the Chinese Cultural Revolution and the disaster it brought to the common men in their body ,psychology and the human nature.The second chapter chiefly deals with the account of the contemporary life in Zhang Wei's works. In his opinion, the current society is also filled with hardships, among which are extreme materialism, decline of moral standard, devoid of humanitarian concern and all this setting people in a despairing state.While bravely disclosing various hardships ,ZhangWei tries to give us some ways to counter with them. The third chapter draws three different salvation and makes a comment on them respectively .One is to go back to the wild land and the great nature so as to get the peace of mind. Another is to stick to pure morality and great ideal to fight against the aggression of mundane wants. The third one is to go out and stroll, which renders the above two practical.In a way, we respect ZhangWei's bravery, while on second thoughts ,we have to recognize that all of this is a kind of regressive historical view. As is known to all , human history follows the progressive trend from agriculture to industry to technology and no power can change this process. So, the above mentioned salvation is not realistic.This thesis combines a historic and logic research methods, reading almost all of ZhangWei's works in detail and following the scientific world view. On the ground of taking over the former accomplishments ,1 manage to form my own opinion, wishing to enrich the research about ZhangWei.
