All kinds of Qi-Methods in the Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties plays an important connecting role in the history of Health Cultivation in China: On one hand, it concludes the theory and practice achievements of Health Cultivation. Since the time preceding Qin Danasty, and pushes the Health Cultivation of early Taoism to its development peak; On the other hand, it made sufficient preparation in both theory and practice to the born and growth of Inner alchemy of Zhong-lu school in Tang and Song Dynasty. This article will follow this thread in the discussion.The first chapter is a brief review of the historical development of Qi-Methods. Qi-Methods's development before Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty is broken into three phases, i.e. time, Han Dynasty, and the Six Danasty era. This chapter also summarizes the features of Qi-Methods's development in all three phases. It shows that the development of Qi-Methods not only had its intrinsic rules, but also was heavily influenced by social trend of thought during different time.The second chapter provides a brief introduction about basic theories of all kinds of Qi-Methods in Sui Dynasty.Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties. In "The Inside vitality Theory" section, the author discussed the connotation and extension of the word "The Inside vitality, Theory", from the aspects of both Universe's Production aid Health Cultivation theory. Inside vitality is the ultimate basis not only of human life existence, but also for the Health Cultivation of Qi-Methods. The "Essence (精 ),Energy (气 )and Spirit (神) theory" section analyzes the different understandings on the roles Essence, Energy, and Spirit played in the process of Health Cultivation. The "Organ Theory" section discusses how Organ Thoery, SanjiaoTheory and Mingmen Theory guide Health Cultivation of Qi-Methods. And "The Energy's Movement Theory" section illuminates the guideline Yin-yang, Yijing provided to Qi-Methods.The chapter three differentiates the ingesting outside vitality and ingesting inside vitality of Sui Dynasty,Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties. The author believes that ingesting inside vitality gradually took over ingesting outside vitality to be a main stream of various Qi-Mehods. The chapter provides a detailed introduction of the core skill of ingesting inside vitality - Embryo repiration.The chapter four touches the relationship between all kinds of Qifa and other traditional Health Cultivation. The author believes that various traditional Health Cultivation gradually syncretized together on the basis of Qifa in Sui Dynasty,Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties. This syncretism was possible only because they found their common theory base.
