Transporting Department is the financial bureau that mainly takes charge of imposing and transporting taxes in ancient times. It plays an important role in both military and national supply since its establishment in Tang, Wudai, Song and Yuan Dynasty.This thesis intends to give a preliminary research to the Transporting Department under the reign of emperor Yuanshizu (Which is abbreviated to TDY in the next text) in four parts.The first part: the setting up and evolution of the TDY. The Transporting Department was founded in Tang Dynasty and developed to the summit in Song Dynasty. Although not formally setting up the Transporting Department, the Mongolia country employed the ten roads tax bureau to manage the affairs. During the reign of emperor Yuanshizu, all kinds of Transporting Departments came to decline gradually after several undulate courses.The second part: the function and position of the TDY. The main function of the TDY lies in collecting , storing and transporting goods and materials . Moreover, it also has some minor functions like participating in political management and supervising administration and so on.The third part: the reason of the Transporting Department's unstable establishment and decline in the reign of emperor Yuanshizu. This part illustrates the cause of the TDY 's decline mainly from political and economic angles.
