In 1913, Tagore won the Nobel Prize in literature, so the Eastern literature arouses the western world interest continuously. Influenced by the "Tagore hot" in west and Japan at the beginning of 20th century, Tagore's thought and the work were disseminated in China, and initiated "Tagore hot" in China. Tagore produced complex and profound influence to the Chinese new-vernacular literature, particular the free verse written in the vernacular. However, current educational world about Tagore studies concentrates in his individual research and the comparison between Tagore and Chinese individual writer. His influencing to the whole Chinese new free verse, and his unique function in Chinese poetry development are neglected relatively. Considering these insufficiencies which exists in the research, this article brings Tagore and "May forth" poetry relations into line with the research field, makes macroscopic, whole contemplation, tries to describe the unique appearance clearly about Tagore affected the Chinese free verse written in the vernacular.Tagore translation experiences three stages in modern China: The start(1913-1918), the prosperity (1919-1924), the bleak (1925-1949). Tagore's poetry is accepted by the "May Fourth" poem widely, because its poetry caters to the need of "May Fourth" thinker circles and poetry artistic circles. The paper second part, analyzes Tagore's influence to "May Fourth" poetry specifically. First, influence to content. Tagore's thought is complex quite, but the pantheism and the philosophy of "love" are accepted commonly by the intellectual of "May Fourth". Former affects Chinese poetry view of nature, latter affects the Chinese poetry view-of love. Second, influence to poetry style. "May Fourth" time, Tagore was introduced to China as literary style everybody, its poetry work provides the writing style model for the Chinese free verse written in the vernacular.
