Among the published articles on the Fine Arts of New China (1949-1976) from both domestic and abroad, the studies on the Fine Arts of Coastal Defense of new China is a field rarely touched. The article provides a preliminary study on this new subject, some unavoidable questions such as sorting out and the narrating of the art works related with Navy; and how the relation links between the paintings and nation-state during that period are covered in this article.The leading approach used in this article is a traditional study method of Fine Art history, other methods borrowed from the field of cultural studies and sociology studies are also applied here to give more comprehensive view. That is to say, to put this subject in broader settings which effects by politics, economy and culture. For example, by giving historical narration on the drawings of Navy in that period and focusing on different .expression patterns on the subject, the article offers an interpretation of how the image of New China Navy comes into fine art history and in what form it presents its' cultural characteristics in that era.Also, the article tries to interpret and analyze at each developing stages of Coastal Defense Fine Arts from 1949 to 1976, It's main achievements and how it gets involved into the nation-state. From the historical recount and analysis on fine arts of New China Navy, one may understand more about how the relations changed and developed between Navy images and the political state.
