Nowadays, under the circumstances of multiculturalism, it is a very challenging task to apply psychoanalysis to art study. Although this approach has been attacked by critics since the very beginning, there are still great potentials to be explored in this field. Just as the modern interdisciplinary research displays, art cannot be confined to one explanation but a multi-carrier of social civilization, culture, style and people's psychological activity as well. Therefore, from the point of view of psychoanalysis, the thesis aims at the desire in the world of visual art. From the angle of psychoanalysis, the thesis centers on the perspective of desire in psychoanalysis. By putting art in the relationship of desires, the author will adopt Lacan's linguistic way of expression of the psychic structure in search of the representative structure of desires in the world of art. In addition, from the viewpointof artistic creation and aesthetic activity, the author will try to------bystudying the desire of the subjects of creation and appreciation, i.e.the artist and the spectator, in the field of visual art------make it clearthat unconscious desires are ubiquitous in the world of art. Finally, after proving the identity of those subjects, the thesis will shed new light on the traditional artistic perspective by further and complete study of the desire. Through revealing of representative structure of desire, the author intends to restore the truth of desire in art: not only giving a new explanation of the deep meaning of the artistic phenomena, but also exploring the practical means of applying psychoanalysis to the study of art.
