Jinwen Shangshu is one of the source documents of Chinese national culture, majoring in recording speeches . It systematically reflects the style and features of the language in Shang Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty. Studying it is of great importance for the research on the history of ancient Chinese.The noun represents mankind's cognitive basic category -Things. Nouns constitute the foundation and core of the vocabulary system. Many great scholars have paid attention to the research on archaic Chinese noun , but they didn't make the study thoroughly. And there're very few research thesis specially about archaic Chinese noun on various kinds of academic periodical. I attempt to find out the characteristic of noun development of archaic Chinese and its inherent law through my overall and systematic investigation of nouns in Jinwen Shangshu. Meanwhile, I try to seek the cultural meanings of nouns in Jinwen Shangshu.Nouns in Jinwen Shangshu can be divided into the monotony tone noun and the complex tone noun, according to the classification of the pronunciational characteristic.The characteristic of the word's meaning of the monotony tone noun in Jinwen Shangshu is keeping a large number of original meanings. And there're systematic Jiedai Yinshen in the monotony tone noun in Jinwen Shangshu.The complex tone noun of Jinwen Shangshu is made up of single-morpheme word and compound word. The former can be subdivided into Lianmian Words, Dieyin Words and Fuyin Words. The latter only has one compounding type. The complex tone noun of Jinwen Shangshu takes proper noun as the core, and hasabundant types of the meanings of words. When the complex tone noun of Jinwen Shangshu was in the initial stage, its shape had the characteristic of unstability.The language is a carrier of the culture, and Chinese is the " living fossil " of the national culture of Chinese. Jinwen Shangshu is one of cultural source documents of China, and there are close connections between the noun in Jinwen Shangshu and traditional culture. I have chosen one group of nouns ( " Ming " and " De ") and one group of noun phrases ( "Sanzhai Sanjun " and "Jiude Zhixing ") to excavate the philosophical meanings and the political meanings of nouns in Jinwen Shangshu.The main research approach of my thesis is based on examining and proofreading the text of Jinwen Shangshu , and I have analysed nouns in Jinwen Shangshu word by word according to theory of system. I have also used analytic approach. In addition, I have used the expressive way of chart and graphic presentation.
