Following the development of the rapid growth of industrial and commercial economy and graphics art itself since later period in the Ming Dynasty, the trend of collection goes for a big way. Because of the enormous social demand and profit margin, the painting works, which used to be made for own pleasure, has been greatly commercialized. This thesis provides a thorough analyze of the transitional trade of painting works in the mid and late Ming Dynasties through the compare the literature and history of painting and the painting theory, particularly focusing on the painting trade which involved the special group of intellects, and it also summarizes the distinct characteristic presented in painting exchange of this period on this basis.Influenced by the random condition of the traditional art market, the painting trade in the Ming Dynasty shows the primitive feature of agricultural culture. Where did the exchange happen and in what way it happened totally depends on the situation involves painting trade, leading to the transient appearance and disappearance. One the one hand, the thesis illustrates the painting trade from a macro angle, not only put emphasis on the time and place; on the other hand, the thesis preliminarily classified the ways of painting trade, which gives the explicit and order in theory. The thesis mainly discusses the ways of painting trade and its characteristics, which provides a clear picture of the true situation of painting trade in this period. The thesis comprises of three parts:Part one talks from the imperial collection which prevailing the market and exposes the increasing trend of the painting trade dealers—the buyers who ignited the trade and the sellers who provided the paintings. This part mainly indicates the increase of the dealers embodies the commercialization of art which is one of the characteristic of painting trade of mid and late Ming Dynasty.Part two indicates that the painting trade was characterized by the diversity of the ways of the painting trade through the study of it especially the involvement of the intellects.Based on the study of part two, Part three shows the fake painting phenomena and the tolerance to it of the Ming people by analyzing the procedure of the painting tradeand further indicates the true situation behind the severe competition of the painting trade market.
