This thesis researches systematically about the directional word "QI LAI"and its relevantstructures. It mainly consists of three parts including the prologue, the main part and the furtherconclusion and discussion.The prologue gives the statement about the meaning, the background, the Problem and themethod adopt mainly of our research.The main part is divided into five chapters: chapter one to chapter five.Chapter one mainly analyzes the directional meaning and cognition of "QI LAI"in thecompound structure of "V+ QI LAI", and investigates classification of the verbs combinedunder the directional meaning.Chapter two researches the extended meaning of "QI LAI", mainly discusses semantics andgrammar application of "V+QI LAI"under the extended meaning of habitus and result. Also,chaper two analyzes the meaning and usage of "QI LAI"ready-to-be a topic marker. This kindof "QI LAI"mainly tries to figure out, explicate, comment someone or something. Thissentence belongs to a special sentence in Chinese ——the middle structure in Chinese.Directional verb "QI LAI "not only can be placed behind verb used as complements, butalso can be placed behind adjective as complements. Chapter three carries on research to themeaning of "adjective+ QI LAI", and finds out that all the adjective combined with "QI LAI"are rank adjective, most of these adjectives are nature adjective. We try to give explanationsabout this grammatical phenomenon.Chapter four analyzes the pattern of sentence "V+QI LAI". On detail, there are twosituations, one is no object, and in this part we analyze the character of verb when no object,then tell the differences of the meaning when there is "LE"and no "LE". The other situation isthe having object "V+QI LAI "sentence, in this part we analyze the four sentence patterns"BA+object+verb+QILAI", "verb +object+QI LAI ", "verb+QI +object+LAI", "verb +QI LAI+object", try to find out the choice mechanism to the four sentence pattern.Chapter five applies the theory of grammaticalization to research the evolution way of "QILAI"from diachronic angle, and tries to research the mechanism that lead to thegrammaticalization of "QI LAI".
