| From the perspectives of the development of individul,family,marriage,sex and the development of living condition,this thesis reveals the changes of private life in late medieval and early modern England,and reflects transformations of civilization of western society from one side.And it generalizes the significance of this thesis and the present studying condition.The auther lay more stress on analyzing the concept of 'private life',its feature and the characteristic of its background,reveals that it is a concept of recent century.And it analyze tow concepts of 'publice life'and 'private life'.This text primarily is divided into four parts.Chapter one firstly discusses that in this period individual gradually broke through all kinds of ties of social reality,winning more and more independence,and reducing those previouse dependence;then it analyzes the varied manifestations of the rise of individualism,and the variety of idea about privacy.Chapter two analyzes the change of English family-this basic cell of society Family ,as the core of private domain,the change of its construction and function affects the private tendency of this inner space.Family relationship became more emotional,individual respect each other more than before.The respect for individual freedom promoted the enlargement of private space,directly determined the quality of private life.There were more respect for individual and more emotion in property settlement and inheritence,which benefited the development of individual and protection of individual rights.Chapter three discussed the patterns of the making of marriage and divorce,which reflected the respect for personal emotion and individual independence.The change the relationship between men and women in marital life and sexual behavior embodied the increase of individual freedom and the respect for personal privacy and the most fundimental right of private life.The sense about body changed,which proved that boundary of privacy proceeded,the consciouseness of private life reforced,private tendency of life style increased.Chapter foure analyzes the change of the scale and layout of housing,which embodied the enlargement of individual space and increase of consciouseness of privacy in these inner place.Those changes about investment on housing and other aspects about it,reflect that individual stressed this private domain.The private association,leisure and amusement inside and outside home,reflect the characteristics and tendency of other aspects of private life.In the end,it summaries the characteristics of private life,and the functions of the factors behind these changes,showing that it's inevitable trend of history that private life become more and more private,individual and humanistic.This is the result of harmonization between individual and society,private life and public life. |
