Water is the spring of human's life , and it is absolutely necessary for people's living. In view of it's indispensable meaning , Chinese philosophy has always looked it as an important concept to think in earlier period. This article's purpose is going to discover the water's deeper meaning in Chinese philosophic thinking according to analyzing it's concept in order to recognize the nature which the water symbolizes.Major philosophy schools in pre-Qin era, such as Confucianism .Taoism , Monism and Legalism , has developed and bestowed more philosophic meaning on the concept. As follows :Firstly ,water's idea no long stays at our daily life only ,but is improved to a higher level which is on ontology and methodology . Then they used it to find out the world root on the meaning of philosophy and realize why the world should be according to the "water".Secondly, "water" is viewed as a very good measure to express their aesthetic image in order to exhibit them tendency of morality and spirit . So "water" even became a symbol of ideal character.Because water has many symbolic characteristics: freedom, softness, silence but permanent and strength, many philosophers in different schools has always paid attention and deepened them, then exploited them to metaphorize human nature, virtue, and the Way. After thousand years heritage, water's symbolic characteristics has become the symbol of our native spirit.
