Marriage And The Second On The Middle And Late Tang Dynasty Poetry

This thesis includes a preface and two chapters.The preface.Firstly I introduced the reasons why I chose this topic and the significance of doing this research.Then I contributed a brief commentary on the researching history and the present researching situation of the relationship between marriage and Poetry of Tang dynasty's middle and later period.In addition,I described the researching purposes,methods and the major creative viewpoints of this thesis.Chapter I: on the relationship between the common practice of financial marriage and poetry of impoverished girls.Financial marriage means the social mode which people regard the property as the indispensable condition of getting any marriage.The social mode of financial marriage of Tang dynasty made the marriage of a large number of impoverished but beautiful and capable girls become very difficult.The same living circumstances and the same personal experiences of impoverished girls and poor scholars were the internal and psychological reasons that produced the poetry of impoverished girls in later Tang dynasty.Financial marriage was unfair to the impoverished girls as well as the decadent imperial examination system was unfair to the poor scholars, and this was the social reason that produced the poetry of impoverished girls.The poetry of impoverished girls has the typical features of poor scholars' poetry in later Tang dynasty,and its style is indignant,tactful,delicate and clear.Chapter II:on the relationship between the difficult marriage position and the poetry of female Taoist priest.The poetry of female Taoist piest is the poems which were written by Taoist nuns with little airs of religion,and the topic of the poems has a bearing on the affairs of human life. The main reason that many females of Tang dynasty were in difficult marriage position was the social mode that marriage should be well-matched in social and economics status.So the females whose families were not wealthy and influential could not have much possibility to get satisfactory marriages.Moreover,the gifted and pretty females could not get any advantages in marriage because people at that time thought highly of the virtuous women.Getting through inquiry into the difficult marriage position of the writers of the poetry of female Taoist priest,I dicussed their great efforts to get rid of the hard circumstances and the results of thatThen we can completely comprehend the inevitability of the writers' life choices and deeply understand the implication of the poems. I think the main artistic characteristics of the poetry of female Taoist priest is the distinctive and intense consciousness of female perceiver.We can read the females' needs and expectancy in the poems. The overall situation of real self has been conveyed by vivid description of the writers' own living circunmstances.Therefore,the poetry of female Taoist priest has achieved great success in the aesthetics level of the sincerity.
