Zhang Wei is a distinctive writer of our contemporary Chinese literature. One important topic of his novels is to make enquiries of humans' spirits. In the four novels: Ancient Boat , September's Fable, Baihui and The Clan, which he wrote in 1980s or 1990s,to find the spirit homestead became the important thought in this novel writing period. Centered on the searching complex of Zhang's, this paper studies his writing thought of this period. It delineates the development trace of the searching thought after analyzing the four novels separately, then elaborates the merits and flaus of the search.This paper is divided into three parts:First, it analyzes the four novels one by one, and delineates the rough searching path.Second, it deals with the value of Zhang's spirit of searching on contemporary Chinese literature and contemporary ideaological construction.Third, it elaborates the flaus of the search and analyze why they exist.We try to treat the search of Zhang's dialectically, so that we can obtain more inspirations to our contemporary ideaological construction.
