Much research has been made into ShiTao' painting theory in the artistic field of our country. However, most art critics made their comments on ShiTao's Paintings from the point of view of Taoism. The Buddhist influence on ShiTao's painting has, to some extent, been neglected to in the study of the painter's pictures. This paper will place emphasis on the Buddhist "impartiality " which has much association with ShiTao' artistic idea of "no establishment of any single artistic doctrine" and " no rejection of any single artistic doctrine" This association should account for ShiTao's later change in his artistic idea, Which this paper will mainly elaborate on.
