About 30 years ago, the term self-presentation did not appear in the index of major social psychology texts. But since then on, this area has witnessed considerable growth and acceptance within mainstream psychology. The results of study in this area have been used to explain many different interpersonal phenomena including aggression, cognitive dissonance, job interviewing behavior and health related behaviors.Study on students of Grade 6, 7, 8 in primary school revealed that: 1. girls tend to be more defensive in using self-presentation tactics; 2. contrast between results of self-presentation scales and social anxiety scale for children support Leary and Kowalski (1990) in that use of self-presentation tactics has no relation with known personality trait; 3. contrast among results of self-presentation scales of Grade 6, 7, 8 primary school students revealed that self-presentation as a system also has procedures of feedback and optimizing; 4. classes defined as ' have bad behavior style' were found to be those classes that haven't developed a ' working consensus'; 5. contrast between results of self-presentation on self-presentation tactics scale and sociability scale revealed that use of self-presentation can partly explain individual's sociability. |
