The book, Secret History of Mongols, was written in the middle period of the thirteenth century. It is the resplended jewel in the Mongolian nationality culture treasure house. It is not only a valuable historical records, but also is an excellent literature works, still more is a precious data for studying ancient Mongolian language and other Altaic languages.In order to better understand the "Secret History of Mongols"; first of all research its vocabulary. Based on the predecessor's research fruit and based on what I have learned in the field of Altaic theory and etymology in the last couple of years, I carried on further interpretation on some terms and their sound change.This paper branched four sections.In the first section, I introduced the research condition of "secret history of Mongols" carried in the home and abroad. At the same time, I offered my suggestions that how to continue the research on "Secret History of Mongols"in the future.In the second section, I listed sonic words that are common to both Turkic and Mongolian languages in narrow sense and are common to Turk, Mongol, Manchu-Tungus and Korean (in broader sense).In the third section, I probed into some words that are borrowed from Turkic languages into Mongolian languages and are borrowed from other languages (Chinese, Persian, Sogdian etc) via Turkic languages.In the last section, I singled out some words that are common to both Turkic and Mongolian languages, but it is difficult to discern whether they are borrowed from each other or common to two language groups. |
