| Bai Wen-wei was famous in the history of the Revolution of 1911 as a bourgeois democratic revolutionist. This period was the most glorious time in his life, as he made significant influence on the political situation.Our paper is divided into three parts:In the first part a brief introduction is made about the revolutionary activities of Bai Wen-wei before he governed An-hui province. At the early process of An-hui revolution, Bai Wen-wei acted as an important organizer to initiate and organize several revolutionary organizations, to consolidate the combination of revolutionary parties, to promote the permeation of revolutionary strength into the army. During the establishing of the Republic of China, Bai Wen-wei, who was the commander of the First army and the general director of the Northern Expedition Army, made great contributions to the recovery of Nan-jing and the Northern Expedition, and was thought to be a hero of the Republic of China.The second part is devoted to the elaboration of the merits of Bai Wen-wei when he governed An-hui province. During this time he united the political situation of An-hui province, which was all split up and defended the revolutionary regime. Further more, Bai Wen-wei did a perfect job in building the revolutionary regime, making major attainments in many aspects, such as political, economical, cultural and etc.In the third part we analyzed the anti-Yuan struggle of Bai Wen-wei in the period before and after he became the governor of An-hui province. Before governing An-hui province, Bai Wen-wei opposed tonegotiate peace with Yuan Shih-K'ai. Governing An-hui province, Bai Wen-wei varied his anti-Yuan tactics from veiled struggle to open strife, the demarcation point of which was the Illegal Loaning and the murdering of Song Jiao-ren. After the erupting of the Second Revolution, Bai Wen-wei had been acting as the director of the anti-Yuan struggle in An-hui province, even when he was forced to go into exile, until won the victory against Yuan Shih-K'ai.At the end of our paper we make a conclusion that Bai Wen-wei is a famous bourgeois democratic revolutionist of modern and contemporary history of China, and is a central figure in the revolution of Jiang-su and An-hui province... |
