This paper has made exhaustive researches on the rhymes of 11829 modern style poetry created by 700 poets in the early stage of the Song Dynasty (960-1060), and dealt with two problems: (1) the relationship between the rhyming of modern style poetry and Li Bu Yun , (2) the conditions of Jie Yun and Chu Yun's existance and their linguistic foundations. In the early stage of the Song Dynasty, the rhyming of modern style poetry followed Li Bu Yun as a whole. But there are still some special rhyming cases of Jie Yun and Chun Yun . They are mainly the products oftheir actual pronunciations. By linking the rhyming words of Jie Yun and Chu Yun at that time, we discover that they reflect the pronunciations of 18 groups of common language and dialects in the early stage of the Song Dynasty, with the former as their mainstream. As for the latter, some special cases of Zhi- Yu , Ge- Ma You-Hou and different rhyming ends of Yang Sheng and so on appeared. The modern style poetry of the Song Dynasty, which is the material to study the pronunciation of the Song Dynasty, is of unique value. The actual pronunciations reflected by Jie Yun and Chu Yun are very important to reveal the development and the law of the pronunciation of the Song Dynasty.
