Wilh the present tendency of diversification of art, walercolor is heading for the broadening of its range of subject mailer, style and expressing method. There is no doubt such effort should be encouraged and promoted. But at the same time we must prevent the trend of oversimplification. We should keep the distinctive features of wutcrcolor and preserve it's unique language.This thesis consists of two parts. The first part demonstrates the relationship between preserving the unique language of walercolor and keeping the tendency of diversification. In the first chapter, the basic connotation of unique language of watercolor is analyzed and defined from the culture characteristics of its tools, techniques and painting styles. By analyze the developing history of watercolor, a conclusion is made thai its unique language is an open system that develops with the time. The second chapter deals with the importance of preserving the unique language of watercolor and it's value in today. The third chapter is regarded as key part. In this chapter, the separation from the unique language of watercolor is revealed from three perspectives. The forth chapter is a conclusion, it points out that the present development of watercolor requires keeping the tendency of diversification as well as preserving it's unique language.The second part of this thesis is about the leaching the unique language of watercolor. To master the unique language of walercolor, the students should be helped to build a profound sketch basis and be trained to have a keen power of perceplion of color. Those arc the presupposition of mastering the unique language. On this basis, a teacher can instruct the student from four aspects to ensure the students master of the unique language of walercolor. Finally, the thesis expounds several approaches to foster the individual style of the students.
