This thesis aims at elaborating on dialect pattern "VO 不C" in modern Chinese . Based on the theory of "three planes"theory, this paper discusses "VO不C"from many aspects such as form and meaning, static state and active state, diachrony and synchroncy.The whole thesis is divided into five parts:I . About dialect patternThis part mainly investigates positional prerequisites of three pattern variants, and expounds the grammatical meanings of the constant item "不". The meaning of possible complement is defined, it is a judgement grounded on subjective facts when the speaker determines whether the action is on certain stateII : About the evolvement of the patternThis parts introduces the source and evolving process of "VO不C". It discusses the characteristics of possible complement from diachronic angle, and argues that"不",as the marker of possible complement, results from the sharing assignments with"没". This part also analysizes the relationships between relevant dialectal patters with "VO 不 C", and analysizes the order of objects in "verb + complement construction".III. Construction AnalysisThis part focuses on different construction analyses owing to different views about the grammatical position of "不". It presents the viewpoint of the author and expatiates over the extensible power of "VO 不 C".IV. Semantic typeThis part points out the different semantic relationships between different "VO不C" patterns. They are divided into twelve types bythose relationships.V - Some other reflections / Other PointsBy means of relevant pattern interchanges, this part hricfly concludes why "VO 不 C"can be regarded as how to distinguish the same shaping format concludes different language values about the same "VO 不 C"pattern and elaborates its drill functions.
