It is the most serious social crisis, that is, the crisis of cultural identification, after Chinese society in the modern times was pounded by the West . It leads to identity and sense losing of the Chinese in the modern times.Liang Qichao was one of the most famous scholars of culture in Chinese modern history, whose 56-year life ran through the process in which China in the modern times changed from traditional society to modern society Liang Qichao was an important witness of various sudden changes in situation in the modern times of China not only on the political level but also on cultural level.This paper regards Liang Qichao as a case of study, and focuses upon the problem of cultural identification. It is based upon inherent clues of the development of scholastic thoughts, and also it emphasizes the realistic need of the social transformation. This paper is divided into four stages to discuss Liang Oichao thinking upon cultural identification. From the aspects of scholastic history social history and ideological history, the author tries his best to pursue the "stable" essence behind the "changeable" appearance of Liang Qichao by means of the new research model in contemporary history, and to comb clearly the present meanings and values of cultural choices made by Liang Qichao and other intellectuals of his time This paper stresses particularly the crucial point: the social transformation separated from tradition will be inevitably unsuccessful...
