The concept of Environmental Design (ED) education is also its ideology. It is the basic advocacy people have to the ED, usually shown in our cognition of concerned educational belief, value , principle or rule. The renewal of the concept is also its transformation which actually is the optional inheriting or surpassing of traditional ideas. The process of this renewing is a critical inheriting to traditional educational views, a generalizing to present educational reforming practice, a refining to the new concept embodying modern spirits. This renewal of concepts can not only meet the needs of current educational reformation, but also predict the developing tendency of the future education and its practice.To discuss the renewal of the concept of ED education in our country, five aspects are covered in this thesis: concepts of grand education, grand ED, educational distinction in ED, International education in ED and sustainable education of ED. First, under the concept of grand education, together with various social educational resources fully exploited, the space of ED education can be enlarged, academic base of teaching practice can be built up in enterprises, ideas can be emancipated, academic limits can be released and grand education with multiple styles, sources, levels and subjects can be cultivated. Second, the concept of grand ED means to break up traditional border of specially, intends to keep the integrity,svstematization, synthesis, openness and dynamic of ED, to develop ideas of ecological ED, functional ED, spiritual ED and to harmonize the relationship of Sky, Earth, Man and Deity. Third, educational distinction in ED emphasizes that design education requires us to keep our national flavor, regional character and academic feature, to carry out humanity education in order to produce talents and words of personality and distinction. Forth, the concept of internationalized education in ED emphasizes that in the age of globalization, education should adjust its goals to provide "open" opportunities, that science and art, art and humanity should be unified, that teaching activity should be socialized, scientific research and design should go to market, academic exchanges should undertake in an international scale, and then talents well accustomed to the globe development can be cultivated. Fifth, the concept of sustainable education of ED hold that quality education is the guarantee of sustainable education, the eventual aim of which is the ability in creation, the manifestation of which is a lifelong. Student should continuously put themselves into active study to be well ready for the future design career.
