Yue Ji is the first systematical aesthetic monograph in China.In the past time, most of the researches on Yue Ji focus on the relationship of the rites, yue, and the effect of yue on society, but in the aesthetic field there are still something more worthy for us to explore. The aesthetic categories of Yue Ji : "qi", "he", "qing", "yiyin", "yiwei", "huashen", have plentiful aesthetic meaning. They manifest themselves in the whole aesthetic idea net of Yue Ji. Simultaneously, these aesthetic categories, as the knots of the aesthetic idea net, sustain the construction of Yue Ji's ideological system. The quintessence of the aesthetic categories of Yue Ji and the characteristic of Yue Ji's theoretical construction exert a profound influence on the development of Chinese traditional aesthetics.This thesis is composed of four chapters. The First Chapter and the Second Chapter analyse the source of idea and the theoretical connotation of the aesthetic categories: "qi", "he", "qing", "yiyin", "yiwei", "huashen". The Third Charpter discusses the characteristic of the Yue Ji's construction of theoretical system. The Fourth Chapter analyzes the development and the change of Yue Ji's aesthetic thought and it's effect on the Chinese traditional aesthetics.
