Seng Zhao was a pivot in history of Chinese Buddhism, Studying his philosophical thinking is conducive to understanding the whole history of Chinese Buddhism. Seng Zhao wrote a series of theses including On things unchanging. On the unreal-void and on the wisdom unknowing. His philosophical thinking embraced three arguments: The Divine Wisdom is devoid of all forms and knows nothing. All things are unreal so they are void. Stillness is not separated from motion, they are just like. Seng Zhao抯 philosophical thinking had two characteristics: To oppose Being or Non-being by Void, To oppose coming into being or going out of being by stillness. Seng Zhao抯 philosophical thinking is objective idealism. understanding this is very important. Seng Zhao抯 philosophical thinking had influenced Hua yan sect Tian tai sect and chan sect.
