This paper reports an investigation into the relationship between SRL (self-regulatedLearning) and English learning performance at tertiary level. A 53-item, Likert-typequestionnaire was completed by 620 third-year non-English majors at Huaihua Teacher'sCollege. The results show that there was a statistically significant positive correlationbetween students' SRL behavior and their English Learning efficiency, and the students'beliefs about English learning, their metacognitive knowledge, their motivation to learnEnglish correlate positively and significantly with their SRL abilities respectively. Theresults were discussed in detail from the perspective of general education, educationalpsychology and metacognitive psychology. In the light of the results, it is suggested that itis necessary and feasible to foster the students' SRI abilities in classroom Englishteaching.
