GuoMoruo was a famous figure in China抯 contemporaly cultural and literary history, and hehad contributed immeasurably to China抯 modem culture and literature in the areas of literarycreation, literary translation, the studies of Chinese characters and history, as well as all sorts ofcultural activities. This article will merely center on the connection between GuoMoruo andExpressionism and the influences of Expressionism on GoMoruo抯 early novels. From this veryaspect, I want to show my comprehensive understanding of his splendid achievements inliterature. This article comprises four parts. The first part embraces Expressionism and its dissemination in China. At the birth of the 2O~century, under the alienation influence of the modem industrial civilization on man抯 existencestate and with the support of Ni Cal, Bo Gesen抯 philosophic theories, there had been a strongExpressionism ideological trend in the field of literature and art, which had formed its owncomparatively systematic outlook and creative ways. During the 揥uSi?period and 1920th,Expressionism had had a wide spread in China抯 new literature and art circle. Lu Xun and otherwriters of the Literature Research Association and the Creative Agency had successivelyintroduced and absorbed Expressionism. The second part emphasizes Go Moruo?acceptance and identification of Expressionism.Owing to some objective factors during the ebbing period of the May 4di Movement and somesubjective factors such as Go Moruo抯 personal dispositions and temperament and his profoundknowledge accomplishments, Go Moruo devoted himself to the introduction and translation ofExpressionism and finally came to his identification of this trend of thought. The third part illustrates Go Moruo抯 inclination to Expressionism in his early novels. GoMoruo did emphasize the truth of the subjective sensation, but he had no intention to escape fromthe realistic problems. From this, we may see his distinct inclination to Expressionism in his earlynovels, namely, by means of the exercise of intuition, dream, fantasies and the setting of someweird, strange stories, Go Moruo expressed his subjective sensation, voiced his strong feeling, and shaped a complicated self-image.The final part explains Go Moruo抯 Characteristic features when he accepted Expressionism. His absorption was selective, aiming to benefit his own literary creation. Thus, it resulted in hisown characteristic subjective features. That抯tosay, based on the mix of the Romanticism inmodem and ancient times, in China and foreign countries, and the utilization of Perfectionismand realism, etc, Go Moruo had established his own characters of Pan Expressionism.2...
