"kuaixin Code" Research

"Kuai xin bian"is one of feature-length popular novels about human relationship of three sets and 32 chapters altogether. "Kuai xin bian" has been published almost three hundred years ago in Qing Dynasty, which is widespread in the late Qing Dynasty. It is popular with readers, so it has been pressed many times and spread widely even to Japan. There are kinds of versions of the book at this stage and one aim for me is to learn about how popular in readers for these different versions."Kuaixinbian" looks like a novel about love, but in fact it broke through love story mode and became a novel about human relationship of marriage as clues. It successfully describes all aspects of life, including hero legend, historical romance, and chivalrous story and so on. It has rich historical, cultural and ideological value and high literature artistic value. Unfortunately, due to various reasons after the Qing Dynasty, "Kuaixinbian" hasn't been widely spread and didn't get enough attentions. And the limited researches are just about brief introductions about the author, some basic knowledge and content of the novels. There're controversies about it a love story or novel about human relationship.On the basis of widely collecting original materials, I made some textual researches about author's lifetime and creation. The author's specific surname can't be confirmed, but combining contents of this novel and some circumstantial evidences, we may conclude that he lived mainly in areas of Yangzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou during late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty and the book was written about in Kangxi 42 years (A.D. 1703) and Kangxi 54 years (A.D. 1715).In content, the author aims at advising to be good and penalizing the vicious. He looked into the whole decayed and chaotic society and expressed his deep concern about the fate of the state and people. He described his deep thought for women, marriage, love and scholars'consciousness. It was not only the product of the age of atmosphere and cultural background, but also interlinked with anti-tradition thoughts about human nature and lust of thinkers and philosophers in late Ming Dynasty. As for art, "Kuaixinbian" portrayed many distinct personalities and complex characters. It attracts readers by ecru and varied language style, vivid exquisite details description and bizarre plots. However, because the author was limited by traditional ideas and original intention of trying to save social and hearts, there are too much sermons in the novel, which brings boring feeling to readers. And the contradictions in the author's thoughts reduced the style and realm. In short, the paper is to get a comprehensive, objective and real understanding about "Kuaixinbian", to analysis and explore its ideological and artistic value as far as possible and to give its proper evaluation and position at last.
