Since the 1980s, along with the widely use of field research of folklore and anthropology in theater studies, the focus of drama studies have began to move from desk and the stage to fields and a variety of performances became major concern. Buyi opera is a local opera which is popular in Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture along Dampen Jiang in Guizhou Province, enjoying a development history of more than one hundred years. The performances of Buyi opera have strong national colour and rich local characteristics, therefore they are deeply loved by the masses of Buyi nationality and become an important entertainment which is indispensable in Buyi social life.This paper aims at artistic aesthetic, analyzing Buyi opera by means of an aesthetic approach in a multi-level, multi-angle manner, striving for a relatively comprehensive representation of unique aesthetic characteristics, aesthetic qualities, aesthetic style of Buyi opera, highlighting individual aesthetic psychology, aesthetic needs, aesthetic set , aesthetic imagination, constructing a relatively complete aesthetic landscape and finally realizing the deep understanding of the laws of the Buyi opera. This viewpoint of study is easier to reach the nature of law of development, for the art aesthetic contains the imagination of real life beyond the nature. Specifically, the art aesthetic about Buyi opera in this paper covered the following main elements:The introduction section of this paper reviews the major achievements of Buyi opera in current research field and clarifies the basic aesthetic connotation of Buyi opera. At the same time, it expounds the value, objective, innovation and specific research methods of this study. The main purpose of this paper lies in outlining research overview of predecessors and research concept of this paper.The first chapter"Ecological Environment of Buyi Theater " discusses the natural ecologic environment, human environment, and other local drama associated with the Buyi drama. These three aspects are the basis and conditions for the formation and development of Buyi opera and they are also the internal basis for the representation of aesthetic form of Buyi opera. In other words, it is the ecologic environment that makes the aesthetic form of Buyi opera. The latter is determined by the former. Therefore, this chapter is the foundation of this paper which is of great significance.The second chapter " Art Form of the Buyi Opera "introduces the repertoire form, music patterns, stage movement, stage art of Buyi opera, trying to display a relatively complete art status, which serves as a theoretical foundation of the comprehensive art aesthetic of Buyi opera in next chapter.The third chapter "Art Aesthetic of Buyi Opera," is the emphasis of this paper. Discussions in this chapter involve almost all the opera elements of Buyi opera, including repertoire, music, opera language, stage movement, stage art and so on. The viewpoint contains the aesthetic form, content aesthetic, functional aesthetic, aesthetic value, aesthetics phenomenon , aesthetic nature and so on. The ultimate intention is to highlight the nationalism and local characteristics of aesthetic characteristics of Buyi theater, which can also be called aesthetic personality.Chapter four " aesthetic evaluation of Buyi opera " is the concluding part of this paper. It expounds the aesthetic relationship between Buyi opera and traditional Chinese opera, as well as the aesthetic quality of Buyi opera. Meanwhile, the author puts forward personal opinion to the expansion room and path of Buyi opera aesthetic.
