As an important and unique American-Jewish writer, there can be no question that Mr. Malamud achieved remarkable success by his novels as"the Assistant"and"the Fixer", but we all instantly recognize his real talents by his short stories rather than his novels. Malamud spreads sharp and typical Jewish natures and spirits according to his description of various characters and abundance of ideas in his short stories, since Father-Son Motif or Topic and Redemption Thought earned fully spiritual value beyond differences in national cultures and religious beliefs. From the early realistic over to the late allegorical narrative and modernism trends, Malamud kept making invocations which featured his short stories more abundant than his most novels in the same time. This essay briefly presented the related researches for the writer, and then carried out the purpose and structures of the paper in the introduction part. The first chapter "World of Fathers" focus on the revelation of the traditional culture motif"Father and Son"to interpret the Jewishness in his short stories. The second chapter"Significance of Redemption"is to express Redemption Thought in Jewish tradition, and extend or explore more related aspects in his short stories. The third chapter"Reality and Fantasy"analyzes the transformation of form of his short stories briefly in two ways: the inosculation of realism and modernism, the characteristic Jewish humor.
