Built upon Contemporary Western Spatial Turn, the Daily Life Theory and the Feminist Criticism of space, this thesis analyzes texts in some hot family ethics TV series such as Dwelling, Double-sided Adhesive and the Marriage of Us, from point to area, to investigate what is the meaning of the representational space in the family ethics TV series. The results show that the space of the family ethics TV series is not just an objective container or a background, which contains a wealth of cultural content, especially cultural significance of gender. The space in the family ethics TV series represents the status that women in their daily life lose themselves from private sphere, public sphere and then their bodies until all aspects. And these are the results of the traditional patriarchal gender division of labor involved in the reproduction of modern social space. The family ethics TV series, as a special kind of spatial production, may be an effective way of construction of space for gender equality, in order to achieve the true emancipation of women and the human ideal of harmony between the sexes.Based on the spatial theory, This thesis analyzes the representation space of the recent Chinese family ethics TV series with the feminist perspective, which is a new attempt in the research field of family ethics TV series, but also an expansion in the criticism of the spatial culture especially in critical applications of the spatial feminist. The thesis is discussed by three aspects:The first chapter: the Spatial Theory, the Daily Life Theory and the Feminist. This chapter firstly gives a simple outline of the development of the Spatial Theory——Lefebvre's spatial dialectic triple, Spatial production; Foucault's space and power; Soja's "third space" theory are introduced. Followed by Lefebvre's Critique of Everyday Life it explains the relationship between the daily life theory and the spatial theory. Finally, the paper introduces the main points of spatial feminist, although the spatial feminist criticism born out of the spatial turn, more a combination of the theory of feminist criticism, which is an integrated product of gender theory and space theory. In this paper, these are the theoretical basis of the study about the family ethics TV series.ChapterⅡ, the representational spaces of the daily life in the family ethics TV series. In this chapter we select some daily living space such as house, kitchen, office to analyze the representational significance of gender, and then extend to the female body. Through these we found that women hoping to get "own room", but generate anxieties because of the conspiracy between consumerism and traditional culture to make women no "room". "Kitchen was born negative", which also is the result of the construction of Patriarchal space in fact. Therefore, in the kitchen, women are not free. The kitchen counter looks spatial confrontation, in essence, is the struggle of power, which leads to contradictions. Modern women out of the home, into the social field, looking for a job, having a job, but are limited everywhere, so gender discrimination is evident. "Office" as the representative of the workplace space, in which women are physically and mentally fatigued. Facing the double burden of family and work, women begin to feel confused on "women's liberation". Whether women generate anxieties in the house, or lead to contradictions in the kitchen, or feel confused in the office, and ultimately our research must return to the female's body, because the body is the core space of the discipline of power, changing the body is changing space, space changed but also is the body changed. But from point of view of the representational female body in the family ethics TV series, modern women are still lost in space, they can not control their own bodies.ChapterⅢ, the production of Space for gender equality in the family ethics TV series. This chapter examines the family ethics TV series as a special space production, from the analysis of opportunity, feasibility of production to indicate that the production for space of the family ethics TV series may be an effective way to construct space for gender equality, in order to achieve the real emancipation of women and the ideal of harmony between the human sexes.
