Learning Burnout is considered as the state of mind that being reluctant to learn or lack of motivation, then tired, physically and mentally fatigued state of mind, accompanied by a series of inappropriate learning avoidance behaviors. The occurrence of learning burnout has its root cause in the environmental and individual factors, and its impact is unnoticeable. This study attempts to examine the issue closely related with the students-learning fatigue, sleep problems and working memory. It aims to reveal the impact of burnout on the individual with recommendations for further improvement. The subjects are undergraduates from Shaanxi Normal University, divided into two sub-studies:Studyâ… :Students learning burnout and sleep problems. A Learning Burnout Questionnaire for University Students, Self-assessment Depression Scale (SDS) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Index (PISQ) are utilized using in the cross-lagged effect and mediation effect analysis to analyze the data. The following conclusions were drawn:1. Generally the undergraduates were not seriously suffered by learning burnout and sleep problem.29% of students were above the mean of burnout. Only 15% of the students had sleep problem. However, this result is still worth of concern.2. The analysis of gender differences reveals males tended to have higher degree of burnout, represented as deeper emotional performance during the learning process, more avoidance behavior learning, lower achievement. Meanwhile males have poorer sleep quality than females. Significant differences were reached the components of sleep time, sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction.3. The analysis of variance in grade suggests the significant difference in total score and three dimensions of burnout. The overall score of burnout in senior and freshman students were lower than sophomore and junior students, plotted an inverted "U"-type distribution. The sophomore students had lesser "sleep time" than students in other grade.4. The analysis of variance in major, science students has higher number than art and other majors in total score and three dimensions of learning burnout. Meanwhile they also had severer sleep disorders and daytime dysfunction.5. The origin place of student only has significant impact on accomplishment, which means that students from rural areas experienced lower accomplishment than students from urban cities. No significant difference of sleep problems were observed.6. The analysis of variance indicated the significant difference in depression and sleep quality between the high burnout group and low burnout group. The individuals in high burnout group suffered higher depression and worse sleep quality.7. Cross-lagged results showed causality relationship between learning burnout and sleep quality. Further regression analysis showed that depression fully mediated the relationship between learning burnout and sleep, which means that learning burnout impacts the emotion, then further impact sleep quality.Studyâ…¡:The impact of learning burnout on working memoryBased on the result from Studyâ… , the top 15 and lowest 15 subjects were grouped as high burnout and low burnout group. Numeric memory, vocabulary, continuous subtract testing, and card flip testing were conducted to test their memory condition.Result:individuals in high burnout group achieved lower score in memory tests than those in low burnout group.1. No difference was observed in sequential numeric rehearsal task between the high burnout group and low burnout group. However, high burnout group had lower performance in invert sequential numeric rehearsal task than low burnout group.2. In the vocabulary span task A, no difference was observed while significant difference emerged in the task B, which performance of individuals in high burnout group is dramatically lower than those in low burnout group. Moreover, when being required to recall the task A after finishing the task B, the low burnout group recalled more contents than high burnout group.3. In continuous subtract task, there were significant differences in total number between high burnout group and low burnout group. However, no difference was observed in correct ratio. It suggests that the individuals in high burnout group tend to response slower and spend longer in calculation when doing continuous subtract task.4. Significantly shorter time and number of clicks were used by individuals in low burnout group than those in high burnout group to accomplish the card flip task. Conclusion:the individuals in high burnout group had poorer performance when the task demands more resources to participate, more content to remember, more complicated to accomplish, accompanied by interference.
